BRINGING PROSPERITY AND economic growth TO THE REGION
At Farnborough Airport, we are proud of our longstanding history of bringing prosperity and economic wellbeing to the surrounding communities.
We are one of the largest employment centres in the region, accounting for around 7% of the total landmass of Rushmoor Borough, which is reported to be one of the strongest growing economic regions in the UK, recording a 6% annual GDP growth compared with the UK average of 1.8% per annum.
Our economic impact has surpassed all previous expectations. A 2022 study found that over the last decade, we have had a significant impact on the prosperity and success of the local area, with total employment associated with the Airport growing 57% and Direct Gross Value Added increasing by 63%.
In 2024, a study published by CBI Economics and entitled, ‘Getting Business Going – The economic benefits to UK plc of business aviation at Farnborough Airport’, revealed that business aviation flights from Farnborough Airport contribute £1.9 billion of Gross Value Added (GVA) to the UK economy every year. The report also discloses that the equivalent of 23,000 FTE jobs result from the economic opportunity created by the enhanced connectivity and travel assurance experienced by users of Farnborough Airport. The CBI Economics study goes on to assert that flights from Farnborough Airport are predominantly of high economic impact, time-sensitive in nature, and essential in purpose.
Over the years, investment in our facilities has helped us become Europe's number one Airport for premium air travel connectivity. This has attracted aviation, aerospace and other associated industries to the region - we now have more than 70 tenants on site.
Today, we are at the centre of a dynamic and fast-growing aerospace and aviation industry cluster, further adding to the appeal of the borough regarding further investment into the local economy. Through continued investment, we plan to support the creation of many more jobs, bringing with it continued economic growth and prosperity.
As the largest and only dedicated business aviation airport in the UK, Farnborough Airport plays an essential role in supporting this economically impactful air travel market, a market which is increasingly being displaced from larger commercial passenger airports as they look to prioritise bigger aircraft in a capacity constrained London and South-East airports network.
